Domain Names

The domain name is a unique electronic address of any computer on the Internet. It helps to access a specific website content residing on the global computer network. At the very beginning of the Internet era domain names were defined only with numbers such as 245.36.72.12. As time passed this technique was replaced by more easily memorable words and expressions.

Millions of individuals and businesses have already registered their domain names. This is the first step towards the Internet integrity. However, some of them were bought with different intentions, e.g. to protect an established trademark, or for re-sale.
Each domain name is built up with expressions (letters from A to Z, numbers from 0 to 9, hyphens) and extensions (generic: .edu, .biz, .com, .gov, .net, etc, or country code: .ge, .fr, .co.uk, ca, etc). In most cases their usage is not restricted to a specific activity as it used to be in the past. However, some of the country code extensions would require a minimum name length, or residential status. The registration process is based on the research of the available combinations of  expressions and extensions. Domain names should be simple, easily memorable, possibly showing a branch, type of business, and/or the country of residence.

Important notice - in order to view any website on the Internet after its domain name has been registered it must also be connected to the server on which the web pages are residing. For more please go to »Knowledge Base »Domain Name
